Our Business Administrator

Joyce A. Swank is the Business Administrator.  She is a graduate of Wright State University.  She has extensive training in the field of gerontology, and worked as a nursing home ombudsman and nursing home administrator. She was office manager of a psychology practice before joining the Swank Counseling team.

She is an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Troy, Ohio, where she is the Children's Choir director. She is presently the treasurer for the St. John's Preschool, which is sponsored by the church. She is also part of the German delegation for the local Festival of Nations. She has many interests, especially fabric arts. She has become more involved in quilting recently recently won awards at quilt shows with her work.  She also enjoys baking artisan breads. She especially enjoys "upcycling," such as recycling  sweaters into wool gloves.

She was born and raised in Sidney, Ohio and graduated from Sidney High School and then attended Miami University, where she and John met, forming a "Miami Merger."  She finished her bachelor's degree at Wright State University after marriage.

Laika is our retired office dog and is Joyce's friend.  She was born in July 2004, and was rescued by "4 Paws for Ability", a  rescue and training group in Xenia. Someone had found her tied up in a garbage bag in a dumpster.  We received her on November 2, 2004. She is clearly a herding breed dog, with some traits of Australian Shepherd, English Shepherd and/or Border Collie.  We used to bring her every day, but discovered that is too stressful for a dog that remains always on alert. Joyce is her main handler, and trainer.

Joyce's "Heron Quilt" is on display in our waiting room.  It was a gift to John. It is completely hand quilted, and is pieced and appliquéd.
