John Swank is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.  He has been in practice in Troy, OH since 1985. He grew up in Lewisburg, Ohio, west of Dayton and south of Greenville.  He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Miami University in 1969.  He received a Masters Degree  from Hamma School of Theology at Wittenberg University in 1973.  He later graduated from Wright State University in 1985 with a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling.

Mr. Swank is licensed with the Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.  That license allows counselors to diagnose and treat mental disorders without supervision.

He is a member of the Ohio Counseling Association.  He has recently presented workshops on medications used for mental health issues.

 Active at St. John's United Church of Christ in Troy, he also serves on the program committee of the Troy Hayner Cultural Center. 

Areas of primary interest in the counseling field is the interface between medicine and wellness. Depression, anxiety, panic disorders, obsessive disorders, and attention deficit disorders are a key area of interest and treatment.

Relationships between people, and helping people have more satisfactory relationships is also of great interest, as he works with marital issues, relationship problems, parenting challenging, and dealing with divorced and blended families.

Hobbies are woodworking, and collecting antiques including antique woodworking tools. He likes to fiddle around in his workshop and recently has taken up bicycling anew. He has also been an avid genealogist, having traced many sides of his family back to the 1600's. He loves reading, research, writing and public speaking.

He has been married to Joyce Swank since 1969. Joyce grew up in Sidney, Ohio.  They have lived in Miami County since 1984.

They have a daughter, Erin Joy, who is a stage manager in professional regional theatre.  She is on the board and is co-secretary of the nationwide Stage Managers' Association. She resides in Denver, and is stage managing a touring/educational group as part of Center City Opera.  During the summers she is a river guide on the Gunnison River.
