Disorder Of Executive Functions(EF)
People with ADHD or ADD often have problems with "Executive Functions." This is a fairly recent term used to describe the way a person manages control of their life. These executive functions are so common, that we take them for granted. People with disorders of EF tend to not learn from their mistakes, don't manage time well, have difficulty making decisions, and manage their emotions poorly.
Disorders of Executive Function include but not be limited to the following:
1. Disorder of Impulse Control- Can you hold back when needed, keep quiet when needed
2. Disorder of Time-Can you learn from the past, and project past learnings into the future?
3. Disorder of Activation- Can you get going and do what you need to do?
4. Disorder of Memory- Can you remember what is important and recall it as needed?
5. Disorder of Emotion- Are your emotions under control and manageable, or are they out of control and you feel overwhelmed easily?
6. Disorder of Attention-Can you pay attention to what is needed?
Obviously such disorders significantly hamper a person's life, and affect the quality of their life.
