Problems we help solve:

What to Expect in Counseling for DepressionCounseling is helpful in the treatment of depression. Counseling will help you find resources within yourself to solve problems and deal with your life’s situation. Even if your relationships have not contributed to the depression, your depression may have had a negative impact on your relationship with others around you. Just as it is frustrating to be depressed, it is frustrating to live with a depressed person. You may have certain ways of thinking that may keep you depressed, such as perfectionism, procrastination, low self-esteem, or guilt from the past. Counseling isn’t quite like the TV or cartoon image of visiting a ‘Shrink." While delving into the past can be helpful, most newer therapies focus more on the present and future. Two types of counseling that are of benefit are Cognitive-Behavior and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Cognitive Behavior therapy focuses on the way that your thinking affects your feelings, and helps you change unhealthy thoughts, and thus change your feelings. Solution Focused Brief Therapy focuses more on the future than on the past and helps you tune in to behaviors that are helpful to your mood, and make changes so that you feel better. |
