Symptoms of Depression

You may have depression in need of treatment if you have 2 or more of the following symptoms.

  • Unplanned weight gain or loss
  • Early morning wakening
  • Insomnia or sleeping too much
  • Agitation
  • Feelings of worthlessness
  • Low mood
  • Sadness
  • Not feeling life worth living
  • Thoughts of suicide or wishing you were dead**
  • Lack of pleasure in usual activities
  • Lack of interest in sexual activity
  • Difficulty concentrating or forgetfulness
  • Fatigue or constant tiredness
  • Feeling worse in the mornings
  • Problems making decisions
  • Excessive or inappropriate guilt
  • Racing brain that you can't slow down

**Thoughts of suicide are to mood what running a fever is to the body.  We know something is very wrong with the chemicals in your brain, and you need help.  One should treat these thoughts as a serious warning sign, the way a fever warns you to seek help for your body.
