The Bipolar Spectrum Diagnostic Scale This is my favorite scale to identify where a person may be on the bipolar spectrum. Nassir Ghaemi helped develop this scale.

Ghaemi has recently written a fascinating book titled, A First Rate Madness. It is about the relationship between aspects of depression and bipolar disorder and effective leadership. He reviews many leaders of the United States and England. His belief is that while bipolar disorder needs treatment because it has a serious risk of suicidality, there are many beneficial aspects, especially at times of crisis.
